At their best, first-person shooters and role-playing games are really close cousins. Sure, Baldur's Gate and Quake III: Arena might not seem to have much in common. But what about games like Morrowind and Deus Ex, games that without too much of a stretch could reasonably be called either sophisticated shooters or RPGs?
